What is it?

Common signs of a hardware issue:

  • Physical damage from drops or spills
    • Screen crack
    • Screen lines or bars
    • Broken hinges
    • Missing/broken pieces
    • Missing keyboard keys
  • Loud clicking, buzzing or grinding sounds
  • Computer will not boot or start up
  • Computer has a flashing light or power button is pulsing white or orange/amber
  • Laptop or Monitor has a black/blank screen
  • Battery issues/battery will not hold a charge
  • Printer streaks and paper jams

UTHSC ITS offers numerous services for repairing, troubleshooting and upgrading technology:

  • Device diagnosis and troubleshooting
    • Technical evaluation
    • Comprehensive functional and structural diagnostics
    • Repair consultations
  • Offered Repairs – Out-of-Warranty repairs may result in a departmental cost
    • Display/Laptop Screen
    • Laptop Port damage (charging, USB, HDMI, etc.)
    • Touchpad
    • Keyboard
    • Internal component repair/replacement
      • CPU
      • Motherboard/logic board/system board
      • RAM
      • Storage device/hard drive

  • Basic upgrades, eligible on a case by case basis

Who Is Eligible to Use It?

Faculty, staff, and students.

Student-owned devices are also eligible for troubleshooting. At this time, UTHSC ITS does not have the ability to perform out-of-warranty repair to student-owned Apple devices.
