RingCentral is the phone service used by all UT Health Science Center numbers. Built on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, RingCentral has a ton of features that will make telecommunications easier and more efficient from wherever you work.
For most of us, RingCentral will replace our current office desk phone (“hard” phone) with the RingCentral app (“soft” phone) installed on your UTHSC computer. (Those who work in safety-related areas or take credit card information by phone will retain hard phones.)
The device on which you install RingCentral needs to have a microphone, or you can use a headset with a microphone. In addition to providing a way to speak during calls, a headset also can increase privacy and reduce distraction.
A headset that you already have may work with RingCentral. However, if you need a headset, see RingCentral’s recommended headsets or contact the HSC Hub.
NOTE: You need know your device platform (Mac or Windows) and port type (USB-A or USB-C) to ensure you are purchasing a compatible headset. (USB-A also is known as just “USB”.)
