Transferring Personal Emails from UTHSC to Another Email

Forward Individual Emails

The simplest way to transfer email is to forward messages directly to your personal email account.

Transfer a Large Number of Emails Using Outlook

If you have many emails to move, you can add your personal email account to Microsoft Outlook and drag messages between accounts.

Important: This method does not work in New Outlook or Outlook.com. You must use the classic Outlook desktop application.

Step 1: Add Your Personal Email Account to Outlook

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Select File.
  3. Select Account Settings, then choose Account Settings again.
  4. Select New.
  5. Enter the full email address of your personal email account.
  6. Enter the password for your personal email account when prompted.
  7. Outlook will automatically configure the connection and add the account.

Step 2: Move Emails Between Accounts

  1. Return to the main Outlook window.
  2. Open the Folder List to view all accounts.
  3. Locate your newly added personal email account.
  4. Create a folder under your personal account (for example, UTHSC) to keep transferred messages organized.
  5. Select the emails or folders you want to move from your UTHSC account.
  6. Drag the selected messages into the folder you created under your personal account.

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure you are using the classic Outlook desktop application, not New Outlook.
  • Verify that both your UTHSC and personal email accounts are visible in Outlook.
  • If Outlook cannot add your personal account, confirm your password and account settings with your email provider.
  • Restart Outlook if folders do not appear after adding the new account.

Additional Notes

  • This method transfers email only; it does not transfer contacts or calendar items.
  • Retirees retain access to their UTHSC email account for 30 days after retirement.
