What Is It?
The virtual desktop service, powered by Microsoft’s Azure Virtual Desktop, provides access to UTHSC resources for full-time faculty and staff members working on restricted networks that do not allow direct web access. The service provides the following functionality:
- General web access
- Access to MS365/Office 365, including UTHSC email
- Standalone Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to save files to your MS365/Office 365 OneDrive or SharePoint
Virtual Desktop features the same security as that which protects the UTHSC network, ensuring a safe computing experience.
The service does not allow/support the following:
- Printing
- Saving documents directly to a computer hard drive
- Web/videoconferencing
Who Is Eligible to Use It?
Full-time UTHSC faculty and staff practicing at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital. Others may be considered on a case-by-case basis based on availability. (NOTE: The service will expand to be used at other facilities in the future.)
