First Time Setup of Duo

It is recommended that the first time setup be done from a Mac or Windows computer with your phone close at hand. Do not create a passkey, if prompted.

 

  1. Install the "Duo Mobile" app on your mobile device.

  2. With a browser open, log in to any UTHSC Resource such as:
    1. Password Management
    2. UTHSC ITS TechConnect
    3. O365.uthsc.edu.
  3. You are prompted to enroll in 2FA. Select Get Started.
  4. Select Duo Mobile to continue. Do not use Device Verification or a Security Key.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. Enter your phone number and select Yes, it's correct to confirm your phone number. (If I have a tablet is selected, skip to next steps. Please be advised, if setting up a tablet, the tablet must always be connected to the Internet for Duo to function.)

     
  6. If setting up Duo from your computer, scan the QR code by selecting + Add Account in the Duo Mobile app. 
    If you are setting up Duo from your phone, select Open Duo Mobile and allow your phone to open the Duo app.

  7. On you mobile device, name your Account and proceed.
  8. Once you see the UT logo and with a passcode underneath, your Duo 2FA is now correctly configured on your device!
  9. Ensure notifications are ENABLED for Duo Mobile on your cell phone.
  10. On your computer, click Continue.
  11. Click I don't want to add more devices.
  12. IMPORTANT - You must click  'Continue to Login' to complete the 2FA set-up process.
  13. You will now perform your first Duo Push Verification. On your cell phone, open the Duo app by either selecting the Duo notification or opening the Duo Mobile App directly. Enter in the three numbers that you see on your computer into the Duo Mobile App on your cell phone.
  14. You have now successfully enabled two-factor on your NetID account and are ready to use two-factor authentication with your University of Tennessee Health Science Center NetID.
