Device Replacement and Disposal
- Obsolete devices should be replaced in the interests of security, support, and productivity.
- Use the Surplus Computing Equipment Form to properly dispose of old computers.
- To request a new computing device recommendation and/or assistance with the computing device replacement process, submit a Request a Computer Purchase Consultation ticket or contact the Service Desk at 901.448.2222.
Requesting an Exemption
If you think you have a valid reason to request an exemption from the University of Tennessee security policy that requires all UT Health Science Center computing devices to use a supported operating system, please submit an exemption request.
Troubleshooting
- Device is blocked from UTHSC wired or wireless networks:
- Verify whether the operating system version is listed as supported above.
- Attempt to update the operating system to a supported version, if possible.
- If the device cannot be updated, begin the replacement process or submit an exemption request if you believe there is a valid reason.
- Cannot print while connected to Eduroam:
- This is expected behavior; devices on Eduroam cannot print to UT Network Printers.
- Use a supported device connected to the UTHSC network to print.
Additional Notes
- Maintaining supported operating systems is critical for security, compliance, and reliable support.
- Unsupported or obsolete devices may lose access to UTHSC networks without prior notice.
- Replacing obsolete devices improves compatibility with UTHSC systems and services.
