Summary
This guide explains how to find the name of your Windows PC. Your device name is often required when submitting IT requests or troubleshooting issues with the Service Desk.
Prerequisites
- A Windows computer
- Access to File Explorer
Instructions
- Click the folder icon on your taskbar (next to the Windows Start button).
- Select This PC in the left-hand pane.
- At the top, click System Properties.
- Your Device name will appear in the window that opens.
Troubleshooting
- If you do not see System Properties, you may be using a newer version of Windows. In that case, right-click This PC and choose Properties.
- If File Explorer does not open, restart your computer and try again.
- If you still cannot locate your device name, the Service Desk can assist.
Additional Notes
- Your device name may include numbers or letters assigned by your department or IT.
- This name is different from your NetID.
