Duo: Restore or Reactivate on a New Phone

Overview

Duo two-factor authentication is an extra layer of account security. It requires you to confirm your identity using your Login credentials and a personal device when trying to access University systems.

Restore or Reactivation

If you get a new phone with the same phone number, you must restore your Duo account to the new one before you can sign in. 

If you have a new phone with a different phone number, you need to contact the UTHSC Service Desk at 901.448.2222 or 1800.413.7830 for help. We will need to remove your phone from Duo so you can go back through the setup process.

If you have an iPhone and restore your phone from an iCloud backup, restoring Duo mobile is easy. Just launch the Duo app and tap Continue. If you do not restore from an iCloud backup or have an Android phone, follow these instructions:

  1. Once you have your new phone, go to 2fa.utk.edu/restore.
  2. On the Password Management page, enter your UTHSC NetID and password then click the Login button.
  3. Select one identifier from the drop-down list (UTHSC Student ID, Employee #, tnUniqueID, or SSN (Last 4) and enter your date of birth. Click Continue.

  4. Select one of the Duo methods to log in.

  5. Select ‘Device Options’ for your phone, choose Reactivate Duo Mobile, and follow the instructions.
